What is breast tightening?

Women looking for ways to improve the appearance of their breasts now have a number of options available, including breast tightening (mastopexy). The decision to tighten the breast is made when hanging breasts become annoying and they affect self-confidence. Wearing certain garments is perceived as shameful.

Procedure

Breast reduction removes skin and breast tissue, removes skin and breast tissue and repositions breast tissue. The nipple is offset to achieve a natural appearance with minimal chest disturbance. After removing excess, the sagging breast tissue is rearranged, resulting in a more youthful projection of the entire breast. Mastopexia can lift the sagging breast tissue.

For patients who want to improve both fullness and breast projection, tightening with simultaneous enlargement is possible (Augmentation Mastopexy). At the same time, liposuction can also be carried out on the lateral breasts in order to achieve an even better breast shape.

This is by far the most common technique. The cuts run around the entire wart yard and then vertically down to the lower part of the chest underbust fold). In this way, the wart atrium can be reduced, sagging breast tissue removed or repositioned and the skin mantle reduced. This technique tightens the breast optimally and can be used in many ways with or without an implant.

Surgical breast augmentation can be done either with the help of implanates (made of silicone or saline) – see chapter “Breast implants”. But also the breast structure with the body’s own adipose tissue (own fat transplaning) or of own muscle tissue (lobe plastic) are an option. In some cases, an implant bag must be formed with a tissue expander, in which the prosthesis is placed in a second step. A tissue expander is a temporary implant that is successively filled with saline and thus leads to the elongation of the tissue above it.

There are several ways to perform a mastopexia with reverse T (T-shaped scar). Although this technique is only performed when a lot of tissue needs to be removed, it is a good option if there is too much excess skin.

Here, too, the breast tissue is rearranged, the nipple is raised and the breast is reshaped. However, additional skin is also removed along the underbust fold, adding an additional scar.

This technique is useful for a bulbous breast, but is only used very rarely. The contracting while closing around the wart atrium leads to a flattened chest; in addition, the scar quality is poor and the wart atrium often stretches again postoperatively.

General complications: Anesthesia incidents, wound healing disorder, disintegrating edges of the wound, hematoma, fluid accumulation, swelling, pain, scar, infection.

Breast-specific complications: Emotional disorders nipple, asymmetry, complications of implants (see “breast enlargement”), circulatory disorder with tissue loss wart atrium and nipple.
